The nose is driven by cavernous minerality. Layered aromas of blackcurrant, damson plum and blueberry skins, violets and bay leaves. It offers an elegant entry with punchy, dancing acidity accenting the red and black currant and berry flavors. There is a stark purity to the fruit that provides a balance between tension and lusciousness, belied by the more rustic, mountainous nose. The tannin is present but polished, smooth and mitigated by the endless acidity which keeps all the flavors vibrant throughout. It finishes very long with black cherry, blackberry, currant and plum with a pleasant underlying garrigue quality.

Grown on rocky volcanic hillsides at 1350' elevation in Napa's "Atlas Peak" appellation, the estate grown vines that produce this wine must struggle. Yields are low but the quality is exceptional. Small amounts of Merlot and Petit Verdot, grown alongside the Cab for blending versatility, add color, structure and silkiness to the finished product. In addition to the 94+ pts from The Wine Advocate, this also received 93 pts from James Suckling and 92 pts from the Wine Spectator, all confirming its extraordinary quality. 98 points/Double Gold from International Women's Wine Competition.
