2017 Lobo Wines Merlot
This is a chance to own a unique Lobo wine that came to be only because of the 2017 Atlas Fire and only 40 cases were made. The Atlas fire of 2017 hit our vineyards days after we had picked our Merlot, but before picking the Cabernet. Without an Atlas Peak Cab to blend with Merlot, we decided the Merlot fruit was too good to sell elsewhere, and we made a small production of 100% Atlas Peak Merlot.
It is classic Merlot, with aromas of raspberry and cassis, followed by ripe plum and blackberry on the palate. The tannins are fine grained and round. The texture is silky. It finishes with dark chocolate and baking spice. This wine will always remind us of the need to be resilient and creative when confronted by disasters we cannot control.
